FTP servers have many uses. Transferring large files or storing and accessing them from any computer are just a few obvious examples. Although they provide an efficient solution, managing FTP servers can be quite difficult. Xlight FTP Server can be used to create one or more virtual FTP servers on any Windows powered computer. It offers everything you need to manage your server, strengthen its security and more.
Xlight FTP Server comes in different editions: Personal, Standard and Professional. As the name suggests, the Personal edition is free for home users and personal use. It will not take long to download the small installation file and the setup wizard will guide you through a standard procedure. If you are using Windows 98 or any higher version, you will not have any issues regarding compatibility.
On the surface, Xlight FTP Server looks very simple. Servers are listed, along with a series of details, on the upper half of the interface. To create one, you just need to provide an IP address or select an option for a dynamic IP, specify a port and choose between FTP or SSH2 protocols. A server's traffic is illustrated on the lower half of the main window and you may start and stop one or all servers with different options, located in the central region.
When you start configuring a server, you will see that Xlight FTP Server is more flexible than it looks. A server is configured on a separate window, where the options are neatly categorized on separate pages. You can enable SSL mode, external user authentication, set up maximum download and upload bandwidths, buffers for sending and receiving data and much more. It is also possible to add users who can log in with or without a password, select a home path and set up permissions for reading, writing, creating or deleting directories and other actions.
The software's security options allow you to force users to log in using SSL or use encrypted data connections. You may also set Xlight FTP Server to check user IPs for PORT or PASV commands. If these options are selected, the control and data connections must be from the same IP. Additionally,you can choose to allow or prevent specific IP addresses from connecting to your server and protect your resources from being leeched by unauthorized users.

Xlight FTP Server includes numerous functions for creating, managing and protecting a FTP server. It offers powerful security measures, which include anti-leech support. Although its settings panels contain many options, they are easy to understand and you will not spend too much time configuring your virtual server.
Cons
Although Xlight FTP Server is not as difficult as other similar software, you still need some basic knowledge about FTP servers and how they work. If you want to manage your own FTP server, Xlight FTP Server provides you with every tool you need to create your server, manage and protect it.
